Here are some warm weather tips from your friendly groomers at Vanity Fur.
• During the spring and summer, lots of people travel. If traveling by car, don’t forget that we stock car harnesses for pets that will allow you to buckle up with your pooch or kitty! They and we would also ask you to remember to never leave them unattended in a car. It gets hot in there!
• While on vacation or even if you’re staying home, keep in mind that as far as your pets are concerned, inside is better than out! Never leave your dogs outside without some water handy and make sure that water is changed out often. Bacteria thrive in hot, still water! Thirsty pets will drink anything, so make sure they have plenty of cool, fresh and clean water available.
• Heatstroke affects people as well as their cats and dogs. Some warning signs to watch out for are excessive panting, staring, refusal to obey commands, anxious expressions on their face, rapid heartbeat, vomiting and collapse. If you believe your pet is suffering from heatstroke, lower its body temperature by applying towels soaked in cool water to hairless areas and once your pets temperature is stabilized, get to the vet immediately!
• Sunburns can hurt our pets just like it can hurt us, so don’t forget the sunscreen if your pet will be spending a lot of time in the sun! Sunburns most often affect pets on their noses and inside their nostrils, around their lips and on the insides of their ears, if the ears stand up.
• Warmer weather brings on flea and tick season, so make sure your prevention program is in place, we have Frontline available for sale at the shop, please call us for pricing.
